Rename files

Here you can rename marked files by adding a Prefix (before the file name) or a Suffix (after the file name but before the file extension). Open the panel with the Rename files button on the left of the Duplicate files or Remaining files tab.

For example:

Filename.JPG

becomes

PrefixFilenameSuffix.JPG

The file extension is never changed.

You can also add extra information to the file name:

  • /g inserts the file’s duplicate group number.
  • /h inserts the file hash. The hash used is the one calculated in the scan - if there is none, an MD5 hash is calculated.
  • Any column of the list, written as its name in square brackets. Click Column name next to the Prefix or Suffix box to pick from the columns available - for example [_Artist] or [width].

Set a Default value for missing metadata, used when a file has no value for a column.

For example, the suffix _Hash_/h produces:

Filename_Hash_f76291ee3bc359e98f1be302c9a30761.JPG

The Preview shows what the file selected in the list will be called, and warns you of any problem with the prefix or suffix.

  • Protect important system folders - Files in important system folders will not be renamed. For a list of these folders, see Skip system folders.

Click Rename files to start. You will be asked to confirm.

To rename a single file, right-click it in the list and choose Rename file (F2).
