Setting up a scan
Each scan has a row of tabs across the top. The first three are where you set the scan up:
- What to find - how you want Duplicate Cleaner to match files: the mode’s own criteria, metadata, more duplicate options and search filters.
- Where to look - the folders and drives to scan, and how each one is treated, plus advanced folder search options.
- Start scan - a summary of your settings, the Start scan button, and the scan’s progress.
The results then appear on the Duplicate files, Remaining files and Duplicate folders tabs.
While a scan is running its settings are locked. You can still look through them.
Save and export
Section titled “Save and export”The Save / export button at the top right of the scan has three options:
- Save scan - Save the scan’s settings and marks now. Duplicate Cleaner also saves every open scan automatically when it closes, so you only need this if you want to be sure your work is safe before then.
- Export scan… - Write the whole scan - settings, results and marks - to a
.dcscanfile. - Export settings only… - Write just the settings to a
.dcscanfile, to use as a starting point for future scans.
See Saving, exporting and importing scans.
Closing a scan
Section titled “Closing a scan”The close button (X) at the top right closes the scan. You will be asked to confirm, as the scan results and any marks are discarded. Export the scan first if you might want them again.
