File types
The File types tab on the Settings page lists the file types Duplicate Cleaner knows how to read. The scan modes use this list to decide which files to read - for example Image mode reads the Image types.
The list has these columns:
- Extension - The file type. Untick a type to treat its files as unknown - they will then be left out of the scan modes that read that type. Some types can’t be switched on, as Duplicate Cleaner can’t yet read their content; their metadata may still be read.
- Category - Image, Camera RAW, Audio, Video, Document, Text or Archive.
- Metadata - Whether Duplicate Cleaner can read metadata from this type.
- Aliases - Other extensions read the same way as the type. For example
.jpeg,.jpeand.jfifare aliases of.jpg. You can edit and add aliases - for instance if a program saves JPEG images with an extension of its own. An extension can only belong to one type; you will be told if an alias is not valid or is already used.
Reset to defaults puts every type back as it was when Duplicate Cleaner was installed.
The types are also used by filter presets, where adding a type brings all its aliases with it.
