Video mode

Video mode is for finding duplicate and similar video files.

Files can be matched by their video frames, by their soundtrack, by exact comparison of the video and audio streams, or by their metadata.

Supported formats include .mp4, .mov, .mkv, .avi, .wmv, .webm, .m4v, .mpg, .flv, .3gp, .m2ts/.mts, .ts and .vob. The full list is shown under All file extensions in Search filters.

  • Exact match - Video+Audio - Compares a hash of the video and audio streams in each file. They must be exactly the same; tags are ignored.
  • Exact match - Video - Compares just the video stream, ignoring the soundtrack.
  • Exact match - Audio - Compares just the audio stream, ignoring the picture.
  • Match by similar video frames - Compares frames taken from each file, to find similar videos - for example the same video at a different resolution or quality.
  • Audio - Similar - compare first 2 minutes - The first two minutes of the soundtrack are compared for similarity.
  • Audio - Similar - compare full file (slower) - The whole soundtrack is compared for similarity.
  • Audio - Similar -quick match (compare first 15 seconds) - The first 15 seconds of the soundtrack are compared for similarity.
  • Ignore content (match by tags or attributes) - The video content is ignored, and matching is done on metadata and file attributes.

Matches the duration of the video files, within a set Tolerance.

Only videos with the same frame size (for example 1920x1080) are matched. A pixel Tolerance can also be set.

Only videos with the same aspect ratio (for example 16:9) are matched.

Video mode can show and match video metadata, such as Title, Recorded Date, Video codec, Frame rate and Audio codec. For instance, if Director and Title are set to be matched then two or more files with matching Director AND Title will be grouped as duplicates. See Metadata.

You can play the files in the results with the Media player.
