General

The General tab on the Settings page contains settings which affect the whole program.

  • Language - The language Duplicate Cleaner is shown in. Only English is available at present - see Language.
  • Confirm on exit - Asks before closing the program.
  • Use internal viewers on double click (where available) - Double-clicking a file in the results opens it in the built-in Image preview or Media player. Otherwise the file is opened in its usual application.
  • File units - How file sizes are shown in the lists: Automatic (in B, kB, MB, GB or TB as suits the size) or Bytes.
  • Suppress all confirmation prompts - The program will not ask for confirmation before certain tasks (deleting files, for instance). Use with caution!
  • Default hash type - The hash type new Same content scans start with.

Not yet available. Show menu bar, Notification sounds, Automatically check for new updates and Allow direct deletion from duplicate lists (DEL key or context menu) are shown, but have no effect in this version.

Caching stores information calculated during a scan, so that later scans of the same, unchanged files are much faster.

  • Use caching for calculated hashes - Stores the hashes calculated in Same content scans.
  • Use image metrics caching - Stores the image information calculated in Image mode scans.
  • Use metadata caching - Stores the metadata read from files.

The caches are kept in Duplicate Cleaner’s data folder - see Where Duplicate Cleaner keeps its data.

  • Prevent computer from sleeping during scan - Stops the computer from going to sleep while a scan is running. Note this may not prevent sleep in cases such as low battery or closing a laptop’s lid.
  • Go to the results tab when finished - Shows the Duplicate files tab automatically when a scan completes.
  • Automatically hide duplicate groups when one file remaining - Drops a group from the Duplicate files list when it only has one file left. For example, after a file removal operation the removed files are dropped from the list - with this ticked, groups left with a single file are dropped too (the remaining file is no longer a duplicate).
  • Use mapping scroll bar - Shows where marked files, and groups with all copies marked, are in the list, alongside the scroll bar.
  • Row shading - None, Alternate row shading (every other row is lightly shaded) or Alternate group shading (every other group is shaded, making groups easy to tell apart).
  • Marked image overlay - Shows a marker over marked images in the thumbnail view and the Image preview.

Programs to offer under Open with on the files list right-click menu. Click Add application, then give each program a Name and a Command - use the browse button to find the program. Use the remove button to take one off the list.

  • %F is all the selected files at once.
  • With neither, the file is added on the end.

  • File Name - Where the log file is kept. Use the browse button to choose a different file.
